The Parisian Civil War was a massive event that unfolded on Betaonline. It was mainly a power-struggle between the two leaders of Paris, raddicted and Norbert011. Oak Hills would support raddicted in the conflict with both munitions and soldiers, as 44cckw and CalmCreeper360 volunteered to fight alongside raddicted on the battlefield. This war is the single most bloodiest event in the server's history, and led to large damage on buildings such as the Oil Rig and Paris Mansion.

The war is considered a coup-attempt, as raddicted unsuccessfully, with Oak Hills support, tried to oust Norbert from power and install himself as the sole ruler of Paris. This goal failed however, and the war ended in a Pyrrhic victory for Norbert.

Prelude

Tensions Arise

The reasons for the Parisian Civil War erupting can be traced back to a single event on the server: Norbert killing CalmCreeper and raddicted. The exact details surrounding the deaths are disputed by both parties, but the facts are that Norbert killed CalmCreeper with his pickaxe. raddicted would teleport to Norbert and attack him with a pickaxe, while Norbert would kill CalmCreeper yet again. With Norbert having Calm's items, raddicted threatened Norbert with a stack of glowstone that he had borrowed. If Norbert didn't return Calm's items; he would never give Norbert the glowstone back. 44cckw and raddicted also suggested that CalmCreeper and Norbert could duel at the Fencepost, Calm turned down the suggestion. Further violence followed, and CalmCreeper threatened Norbert:

To stop Norbert from killing raddicted and CalmCreeper, 44cckw would use /kill to murder Norbert, with raddicted proceeding to steal all of Norbert's dropped items. Due to pretty much all players loosing their items, the server reloaded from backup.

With the server doing a rollback to restore player's items, 44cckw had hopefully ended the ongoing conflict on the server. However, raddicted would kill Norbert when he entered raddicted's House. Norbert would complain about this, citing that raddicted was inciting more conflict on the server. raddicted would on the other hand say that it was perfectly acceptable, as Norbert was trespassing on private property, and that he simply did exactly what Norbert had done on a previous occasion. Norbert did not take this lightly, and killed raddicted inside of his home and stole his items in the process. With this, Norbert had again created two enemies on the server who wanted him brought to justice. Norbert would go offline for the time being. While 44cckw was thinking about what to do, Calm took matters into his own hands.

Dog Massacre

As revenge for his previous murder and theft of items, CalmCreeper was on the war-path. With the help of 44cckw, he broke into Norbert's house and burned all of Norbert's dogs alive with lava.

This event in particular is one of the main contributing factors of the Parisian Civil War breaking out. raddicted and 44cckw knew that conflict would arise from Calm's massacre, and immediately began preparing and stockpiling weapons and food.

War

Opening Shots

With Norbert being offline for the time being, raddicted, 44cckw and CalmCreeper was gearing up for a war with Norbert. Being fed up with Norbert's shenanigans and rule over Paris, raddicted wanted to depose Norbert as ruler of Paris and gain full control himself. 44cckw and Calm threw in their support, and would begin to provide materials and weapons. However, diamond supplies from the Dupe War was beginning to dwindle, but it was enough left for raddicted and 44cckw to craft full diamond armor. Further materiel would be acquired from the Spider Cave and the Skeleton farm inside the Paris Hole. 44cckw's oil rig would be set up as a base of operations, due to it's location and being easy to defend against attackers. All warps would be rendered useless by covering them in obsidian.

Right when the raddicted-clique was grouping outside of the Spider Cave, Norbert logged on. With rad's army being well-equipped and ready to fight, they began planning what to do next. However, Norbert surprise-attacked the group from the north. He would successfully kill Calm, but 44cckw would hit and kill Norbert in return. With Norbert respawning at his house, the group decided to quickly assault Norbert's house from the west. This attack-move would later be known as the 'quick dash east'. It was mildly successful, as Norbert managed to intercept the attackers on the way. It was discovered by rad's Army during this attack that Norbert somehow had harnessed EvilPoopMan's abilities, as he was able to quickly kill the group, similar to killaura. This made it significantly more difficult to attack Norbert, and rad's Army went over to using bows as weapons. This did little damage, and some players didn't have enough arrows or even a bow. With the raddicted loyalists crumbling, they fell back to the oil rig and began planning their next move.

Discovery of the Nether Dupe Stash

With rad's Army in disarray after being destroyed by Norbert's EvilPoopMan powers, raddicted came up with the idea of using lava-buckets as a weapon. To gather the lava, raddicted and 44cckw ventured into the Nether. However, the players found a lot more than just lava. raddicted stumbled across a massive dupe stash. This was a massive morale-boost to the army, as the supply of dupe war-era diamonds that they had used previously was very small. rad's Army would spend a significant time manually mining these duped diamond blocks, and gather them at the oil rig. In total, they gathered approximately 3 stacks of diamond blocks, which was more than enough.

There is debate among the player base on who exactly created this dupe stash. The Nether was largely explored and mapped back in September and the dupe stash was not found then, so it is believed to have been created some time in October-November. While the first suspect was Revert, who had previously duped on the server a few weeks prior, many players doubted this. Revert himself would even go on record saying that the dupe was not committed by him, as he never duped anything other than iron and lapis blocks. It is most likely that this is a copycat crime committed by an unknown player on the server.

While this went down in the underworld, Norbert was preparing a counter-attack in the Overworld.

Assault and Siege on the Oil Rig

With rad's Army losing their ground on mainland Paris and Oak Hills, they regrouped at the oil rig. While they were busy crafting and managing more gear they would use, Norbert would use the massive tunnel-system underneath Paris to advance on the oil rig. As these tunnels was connected directly to the oil rig, raddicted and CalmCreeper would pour lava down the stairs leading to the underground tunnels. This successfully halted Norbert's first attack, as he was unable to stop the massive flow of lava coming from above. With their current advantage, raddicted planned to build a tower up to build limit and pour lava down onto Norbert's house. This wouldn't destroy his house due to fire-spread being disabled, but it would trap Norbert inside his house. While rad's Army was gathering the resources for this, norbert had a trick up his sleeve; using his mystical powers, he would fly to the oil rig. This was a shocker and completely took rad's Army by surprise. The previously thought impossible to penetrate oil rig was suddenly under attack by a flying player. With his killarura, Norbert would massacre rad's Army stationed on the oil rig. It was impossible to kill him with lava buckets, and the supply of arrows was getting smaller. It didn't help either that Norbert would destroy the dead player's loot with fire, meaning that rad's Army would inevitably run out of resources. However, raddicted had one final plan, and suggested it to 44cckw.

Worldedit and end of the Conflict

With it being clear that there was no way for the raddicted loyalists to win the war due to Norbert's powers, they only had one option left to use: Worldedit. As 44cckw was a server operator, he had access to the powerful plugin named Worldedit. This could let 44cckw do unimaginable things, and it could rival the powers of Norbert. Using the plugin, 44cckw would delete Norbert's house from existence. This move brought the war to a quick end, and both parties of the conflict agreed to cease fighting. A backup of the world was loaded, due to damages caused by the war. With Norbert keeping his position in Paris, and raddicted failing to depose him, the war ended in a clear victory for Norbert.

Aftermath

The conflict is an important piece of Paris history. It solidified Norbert's rule of Paris together with raddicted, though the relationship between the two took a hit. Relations between Paris and Oak Hills was also soured, due to Oak Hills supporting the raddicted's insurrection and coup-attempt. The war is also the single-most deadliest conflict in the server's history. Due to the massive damages caused on the server; the loss of items, the massacre of Norbert's dogs and Norbert's house vanishing from existence, the server reloaded from backup.

While Norbert and raddicted continued to be friends, the same could not be said for Nobert and CalmCreeper. Even though the server loaded a backup, meaning that Calm kept his items, he was still upset about the unjustified murder of him. He has vowed to take revenge on Norbert in some way, even though it could lead to another conflict in the future, which it eventually did. During EvilPoopMan's Reign over the server some weeks later, fighting between the two would continue to happen.
