Oak Hills is a major nation on Betaonline, and together with Paris makes up one of the most important areas on the server.

Origins[edit]

Dupe Wars[edit]

Oak Hills was arguably the main battleground during the Dupe War, and was the city that was hit the hardest by the conflict. The first dupe stashes created by 46mm, the main perpetrator of the war, was discovered at the Pier and the first Nomad Hut. Oak Hills was also targeted with several more traditional griefs in April, with both Revert and 46mm being banned following this. The damages were reverted as the server restored from backup after these incidents.

Secession of Paris[edit]

The Harbor department, which had been unofficially named "Paris" by its inhabitants, had grown more independent from other areas of Oak Hills throughout the year of 2022. The status of the region was further questioned by 44cckw in August that year, and it was clear that the residents of the Harbor department wanted more autonomy. 44cckw took this up with Norbert011 and raddicted, who acted as the unofficial governors of the department. All parties agreed that the territory should secede peacefully from Oak Hills without bloodshed. On 28 August 2022, the Harbor department ceased to exist and was transformed into the independent city of Paris.

Rules[edit]

Oak Hills has a set of rules that citizens must follow in order to be allowed to live in the town.

Bridges need to let people pass under.
Terraforming or changing the landscape must be done with a permit.
Respect historical builds.
Do not leave trees floating.
To preserve the landscape, all dirt, gravel and sand must be sourced from underground mines or other means.

Forest Department-specific rules:

Replant all trees you chop down - respect the nature.

Government[edit]

The government of Oak Hills is small. The legislature and judiciary is the Oak Hills Court, which creates laws, holds court-cases and convicts criminals. The executive branch of the government is the majors, 44cckw and FinsCon. Every Oak Hills citizen is also automatically member of the town council. This council can call meetings, discuss laws and other matters.

Downtown[edit]

Downtown Department is the largest and most populous of Oak Hills' departments. It has acted as the city's cultural center, with many big events such as the Dupe Wars having taken place there. Arguably one of the server's most busy spots, it will go down in Betaonline history as one of the most important locations on the server.

Lake[edit]

Lake Department is the most rural of the departments. While it was officially formed in July 2022 by 44cckw, there had previously been built several structures on the territory, the most well known one being the Oak Hills Sign. ZillyArt32 would be the first inhabitant of the region, though it was at that point in time not considered part of Oak Hills. The general area of Zil's house would be nicknamed Trannyville, though the name was later changed to Lake department to better reflect the nature of the location.

Hill[edit]

Hill Department is the youngest of the departments. Officially formed on 18 September 2022, it was previously inhabited by 46mm during his parole in April 2022, and was the location of one of Revert's dupe stashes. Today, the Dupe War Museum is located in the department, as well as many other minor buildings with no permanent populace.

Previous Departments[edit]

Harbor (Paris)[edit]

Harbor Department, now known as Paris, was previously a department of Oak Hills. It was considered an integral part of Oak Hills, and with the implementation of the department-system it would be known as Harbor department. Harbor department officially disbanded on 28 August 2022, though it was de-facto considered its own town long before that.

Harbor department has been used to refer to the entirety of modern-day Paris, though the original intention was to have the harbor department encompass what is today the Parisian departments of Parisian Plain and Great Golden Dunes, with Birchpost Cliffs remaining apart of Oak Hills' Downtown department. This was never put into action, and never left the idea-board.
