The Dupe War Memorial is a monument in Oak Hills. It is the remnants of the Nether portal 46mm used during the early days of the Dupe War to dupe large amounts of diamond and gold blocks. After the end of the conflict, it was partially destroyed and turned into a monument by Norbert011.

History[edit]

Usage during the Dupe War[edit]

The portal was constructed by 46mm at an unknown point. The earliest records of its existence dates back to 15 March 2022 during 46mm's third infiltration of the server, though it is possible that he created it on 14 March 2022. What is known for sure, is that 46mm used the portal on 15 March to dupe large amounts of diamond and gold blocks. These blocks were hidden all across the server in dupe stashes. 44cckw noticed the Nether portal on 15 March 2022, but didn't think much of it and ignored it for the time being. He found it weird that it had water placed around it, but due to his lack of knowledge about duping methods he ignored it. The portal remained active throughout the Dupe War, though it was not used by any players.

It is possible that 46mm duped more blocks on other occasions throughout the Dupe War, but this remains disputed. His 15 March dupe remains the only confirmed dupe on the server, with the rest being speculation by Betaonline historians.

Destruction and monument[edit]

The dupe-portal remained in operational state throughout the Dupe War, as this region of what would later be known as the Lake Department was not populated at the time. Norbert011 would rediscover the portal on 25 March 2022, partially destroy it and turn it into a monument. He would put up a sign stating its historical significance. A road leading to the monument was constructed by 44cckw some time later, and the signs was updated in August 2022 to include more information. A barrier surrounding the monument would also be created.

Grief on Nether portals[edit]

The Dupe War Memorial, together with all other Nether portals on the server, would receive a significant grief on the server by the player epikrika on 2 December 2022. The historical monument was heavily damaged, with several blocks originally placed by 46mm being destroyed forever. Epikrika would admit to breaking the portals, and numerous other crimes on 3 December 2022, after a server-wide outrage. Epikrika would be tried at the Oak Hills court, executed, and banned from the server. The dupe-portal received restoration and repairs by 44cckw and Norbert011.
